Cowboys, Cowgirls Excel During Team Penning

Twenty-seven teams competed in the Whetstone Valley Rodeo Association (WVRA) third team penning of the season on July 8. The money-winning teams penned three cattle in under 90 seconds. Brad Hanson, Blair Wittnebel, and Gary Letrud placed first. Dewey Carlson, Milt Stengel, and Joanie Hills took second place. Steve Hamann, Dustin Hills, and Jess McGee took third.

Eighteen teams competed in the sorting event. In this event, eight cattle are held at one end of the arena. Seven have numbers from one to seven; the one without a number is called the spoiler. Teams are given a number and must chase the cattle across the line in numerical order starting with that number. Four teams sorted all seven cattle in the two minute time limit. The team of Craig Magedanz, Gary Letrud and Casey Yamaura took first place. Brad Hanson, Joanie Hills, and Gary Letrud took second.

The next team penning is Saturday, July 22, at 7 p.m. A two-man sort on Saturday, July 15, starts at 5 p.m.
