Andrena McEwen, age 96 of Ortonville died July 31, 2017, in Eagan, MN.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 4, at 10:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Ortonville. Rev. Ailsa Odom will officiate and burial will be in Mound Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5 – 7 p.m. at Mundwiler and Larson Funeral Home. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Friday, one hour prior to the service.
Honorary bearers will be: Christy and Garret Roach, Jessica and Brett Wigglesworth, Kelly and Mark Keeler, Aimee and Lucas Marz; Ross McEwen, Gene Hausauer, Gary (Chico) Beachem, Eugene Schlueter, David Ross, Kenneth McEwen Jr, Scott Tower, and Richard Schneck.
Casket bearers will be: Curtis Anderson, Lynn McEwen, Gayle Sitter, Terry King, Bruce Dybvig, and Clyde Weros.
Music will be provided by Jerome Goddard, organist and Paula Tobin, vocalist.
Andrena was born December 5, 1920, in Clinton, MN. She was the daughter of Fritz Hjalmer Ross and Julianna (Anna) Anderson Ross. Andrena graduated from Clinton High School with the Class of 1938. She was united in marriage with Orville McEwen on September 11, 1941, in Ortonville, MN.
While Orville was serving in the United States Navy, Andrena lived in San Diego, CA and Seattle, WA. Following Orville’s discharge, they moved to Minneapolis, MN before settling in Ortonville.
Andrena retired in 1980 after working 26 years with the U.S. Department of Agriculture at the Big Stone County ASCS office in Ortonville. She was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church and was church organist for 42 years, as well as singing with the choir and serving on the church council. She was a member of the Big Stone Healthcare Foundation, V.F.W. Post 3964 Ladies Auxiliary, Red Hat Ladies Society, and a study club member.
Andrena cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed mentoring and spending time with them. She wrote some 600 memoirs. She enjoyed music and was a gifted musician – playing the piano, organ, and accordion.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons and daughters-in-law: Craig and Leita McEwen of West Fargo, ND; Royce and Pat McEwen of Burnsville, MN; Brent McEwen and special friend Janelle Conner of Moorhead, MN; grandchildren: Jessica (Brett) Wigglesworth, Aimee (Lucas) Marz; Christy (Garret) Roach; Kelly (Mark) Keeler; Ross McEwen; great-grandchildren: Brenna and Beckett Roach; Jackson and Dawson Wigglesworth; Annabelle Keeler; and Stella Marz; as well as many other relatives and friends.
Andrena was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Orville McEwen; daughter, Claudia Jean; son, Randy; brothers: Donald Ross and DeWayne Ross; sisters: Stella McEwen and Lola Schlueter; and other relatives.
Andrena’s family suggests memorials be given to Zion Lutheran Church, Ortonville, MN or Big Stone Health Care Foundation.
