Max Hapka, age 91 of Ortonville who died July 28, 2017, Fairway View Communities in Ortonville.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 3, at 2:00 p.m. at Mundwiler and Larson Funeral Home in Ortonville. Deacon Art Abel will officiate and a private burial will take place at the Little Falls State Veterans Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Max was born December 15, 1925, in Argyle, MN. He was the son of Bernie and Mary (Kovers) Hapka. He was baptized at St. Rose of Lima Church in Argyle, MN. He attended school through the 8th grade. He lived and tended the family farm until being drafted in 1944. After being honorably discharged in 1946, he returned to the family farm and went back to school, eventually becoming a Traveling Depot Manager for the railroad.

He was united in marriage to Dorothy Schmieg -Stoick on January 24th, 1950 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rosen, MN. To this union seven children were born. Max farmed until 1959, when he left the family farm in search of work in the Twin Cities. Death came to Max on July 28th, 2017 at the age of 91.

Left to cherish his memory are his children: Betty (Joe) Spors; Colleen (Mike) Unzen; Rita (Dave) Karels; Anita Bethel; Laurie Adams and Rick (Marchel) Hapka; step children: Tom (Diane) Stoick and Carol Anderson; as well as many other relatives and friends.

Max was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy Hapka; daughter, Jeannie Gray; step son, Leon Stoick; grandchildren: Justine Daniels and Isaac Karels; siblings: Ray Hapka, Agnes Tippet and Rose MacArthur.
