Ten MHS chorus members were selected to perform with the South Dakota High School Honor Choir from July 30 to August 4. Northern State University in Aberdeen hosted the rehearsals and activities, including a formal concert at the Johnson Fine Arts Center. Dr. Sharon Hanson, Emerita Professor of Conducting and Choral Music at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, served as the guest conductor.
“Acceptance into the prestigious 150-voice ensemble took place during the school year where all sophomore and junior high school chorus members in South Dakota were invited to audition,” explained MHS choir director Miriam Schwenn. “Results are based on a prepared solo, tonal memory, sight-singing ability and a written test covering musical terminology.”
Representing Milbank were: (Back l. to r.) Adam Thomas, Nathan Loutsch, Andrew Falk, Chase Pinkert, Jordan Riley, and Keaton Hagen. (Front) Shawn Stemsrud, Elisabeth Schwenn, Taylor Thue, and Ben Harstad. Acceptance into the 150-voice ensemble is based on a prepared solo, tonal memory, sight-singing ability, and a written test covering musical terminology.
