Grant County Achievement Days: Swine, Dairy Goats and Cattle Results

The 2017 Grant County 4-H Achievement Days wrapped up the three-day event with the swine, dairy cattle, and dairy goat shows.

The swine show kicked off the day. Lindsey Mertens’ entry was named Grand Champion purebred gilt and Garrett Mertens’ was Reserve Champion. Garrett Mertens’ animals were also named Grand Champion Purebred Barrow and Grand Champion Market Swine. Lindsey Mertens’ animals were named the Reserve Champion in both categories.

Other top honors went to Tanner Mertens for his Grand Champion Crossbred Gilt, Grand Champion overall crossbred, and Grand Champion market swine. Karlee Mertens entries were named Reserve Champion crossbred gilt, Reserve Champion overall crossbred, and Reserve Champion market swine. William Mischel raised the Grand Champion crossbred barrow, and Garrett Mertens the Reserve Champion crossbred barrow.

In showmanship, Karlee Mertens was named Grand Champion in the senior division and Lindsey Mertens was Reserve Champion. Tanner Mertens was named junior Grand Champion; Korbin Leddy was Reserve Champion. In the beginner division, Garrett Mertens took home the Grand Champion title and Abigail Pillatzki was Reserve Champion.

Sydney Zenk’s entry was named Grand Champion dairy goat. Sage Lawrence’s was Reserve Champion. The three winners for showmanship in the dairy goat show were Sydney Zenk (senior), Sage Lawrence (junior), and Shane Spiering (beginner). All were named Grand Champion.

In the dairy cattle show, Kendra Schweer’s animals were named both Grand Champion and Reserve Champion dairy heifer. Marion Mischel’s earned the Grand Champion dairy cow honor. Kendra Schweer’s was the Reserve Champion.

Honors in the dairy cattle show, went to Kendra Schweer’s animal chosen as Grand Champion senior. Sarah Jarman’s was Reserve Champion senior. Marion Mischel’s entry was Grand Champion junior and Jersey Peschong’s was Reserve Champion junior. Hope Karels’ animal was Grand Champion beginner and Devon Mueller’s was selected as Reserve Champion beginner.
