The Milbank High School girls tennis team traveled to Madison Tuesday, August 22, for the Battle of the Bulldogs. Milbank suffered an 8-1 loss.

Jenna Johnson was the lone varsity winner at the No. 6 singles position. “We had competitive second set singles with Jodi DeVaal, Halli Essington, and Rhianna Cantine,” explained Milbank Head Coach Jim Dahl. “In doubles, Hattie Mullenbach and Jenna Johnson were very competitive. Overall, it was a good outing for us against a good opponent.”

Milbank also competed in the LQPV Triangular on August 25. They finished 1-1. The Lady Bulldogs started with a 4-3 victory over Marshall, Minnesota. DeVaal, Essington, and Cantine won in straight sets in their singles matches, and Essington and Johnson teamed up for a win at No. 1 doubles. “This was a nice victory for our team,” said Dahl. “I would not have thought we would be at this stage with such a young team. So, credit to the players for taking on our motto and rising above it.”

The Lady Bulldogs then dropped the top three singles spots and the number one doubles match in their 4-0 loss to LQPV. “They are very solid up and down their lineup,” said Dahl. “The other three matches were rained out before they could be completed, but LQPV had convincing starts in all of them.”
