The Milbank High School boys and girls cross country teams finished with high marks in their home Hardee’s Invitational meet Saturday, September 9, at Pine Hills Golf Course.

“This was a fantastic meet for both teams,” expressed Bulldog head cross country coach Eric Townsend. “The conditions were perfect and the times were very fast. The boys team finish was the highest by Milbank at this meet since 2012, and the girls team finish was their highest in this meet in over 15 years.”

Milbank place second in the team standings in the girls division with 39 points. Flandreau won the meet with 29 points. The boys team took third place with 58 points. LQPV won the meet with 16 points, and Breckenridge-Wahpeton was second with 33.

Seventeen teams with over 340 runners competed in the event. Five girls and three boys placed in the top 20 for Milbank. “To do that is outstanding,” added Townsend. “I really feel good about where both teams are at at this point in the season. We need to continue to work hard in practice, stay healthy, and keep improving each week and with every meet.”

In the varsity girls division, seventh grader Maurina Street led the team with a seventh place finish. Maiah Brown finished in 11th place with Taylor Thue in 12th and Amaya Street in 13th place. Danica Schulte also placed in the top 20 for Milbank. She landed in 15th place overall.

On the boys side, eighth grader Nick Batchelor led the Bulldogs with a fifth place finish. Zippy Bock finished in 12th, and Luke Wold, in 20th, to set the pace for Milbank.
