The Milbank Area Lady Bulldogs rolled to a 3-0 victory over the Sisseton Redmen in Northeast Conference high school volleyball action September 14, on the road. Milbank Area improved to 4-5 for the season with the win.

The Lady Bulldogs got out to a quick 6-1 start. Sisseton came back with a short run to cut the deficit to 6-4. Sisseton inched their way back into a tie game at 12-12. Milbank Area then settled into the match and got their offense rolling. Kills by Molly Rick, Gabbi Cummins and Jaecy Engebretson, along with serving aces by Jaden Hoeke and Cummins gave the Lady Bulldogs a commanding 25-14 first set win.

Milbank Area struggled to start the second set and fell behind 1-5 until Cummins dropped in five aces to give the Dawgs the lead at 15-6. The Lady Bulldogs lead 20-10 before Sisseton went on a six point run to tighten the gap to 20-16. Three tip kills by Cummins and a kill by Rick gave Milbank Area the 25-17 second set victory.

A tight third set ensued with the score knotted up at 13-13 and again at 16-16. Rick belted out five kills and the Redmen committed critical errors. Milbank Area the 25-18 set and match win.

Rick led the Lady Bulldogs with 14 kills on 24-29 hitting, 4-4 serving and 12 digs. Cummins followed with eight kills on 20-22 hitting, nine assists on 24-24 setting, seven aces on 22-22 serving and six digs. Engebretson tallied six kills on 19-19 hitting, 16 assists on 41-42 setting, two aces on 4-5 serving and 11 digs.

Other key contributors for the Lady Bulldogs were Hoeke, one kill on 8-8 hitting, 5-5 setting, two aces on 18-20 serving and seven digs; Makayla Johnson, one kill on 1-3 hitting, two aces on 5-6 serving and two digs; Maty Lightfield, 2-2 setting, one ace on 9-9 serving and three digs; Elisabeth Schwenn, four assists on 14-14 setting; Katie Vander Wal, 4-4 serving and four digs, and Katie Wollschlager, seven digs.

Milbank will be back in action on their home court Tuesday, September 19, when they host the Sioux Valley Cossacks.
