The Milbank High School cross country teams faced humidity and temperatures nearing 90 degrees during the prestigious Roy Griak Invitational meet at the University... Batchelor Places 47th out of 499

The Milbank High School cross country teams faced humidity and temperatures nearing 90 degrees during the prestigious Roy Griak Invitational meet at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis on September 23. The races were cut to two miles instead of the traditional 5K or 3.1 mile race because of the conditions.

In the boys varsity division, 499 runners from 58 schools competed. Nick Batchelor led the Dawgs with a 47th place finish. Luke Wold, placed 243rd; Zippy Bock, was 268th. Alex Farrell, Carter Hartman, Jamisen Sperry, Ben Harstad, and Braden Brandriet also competed.

Milbank’s head cross country coach, Eric Townsend, said, “The girls team finished the highest they have at this meet since 2009 at 34th place. The boys team placing 44th, was also very good.”

In the girls high school division, there were 408 runners representing 48 schools. Danica Schulte was the top finisher from Milbank in 108th place. Maurina Street finished in 153rd, Amaya Street was 159th, and Taylor Thue was 174th. Allison Leddy, Ashlyn O’Farrell, and Savanna Osowski also competed.
