Milbank High School will host a sudden cardiac death prevention screening in conjunction with Screening America. The screening is scheduled for Thursday, October 19, at the high school.
The most common cause of sudden death in young people results from congenital abnormalities of the heart and blood vessels that typically produce no symptoms. Approximately 12,500 youth have sudden cardiac arrest each year according to the 2016 National Academy of Sciences.
The screening is for people ages 12 to 34 and includes a limited echocardiogram, a 12-lead EKG, health history, blood pressure check, and a review of all information by a local board certified cardiologist. The cost for the screening is $89, and scholarships are available. A sibling discount is also available.
To schedule an appointment, call 605-274-2525 or register online at www.screening-america.com.
