The Milbank High School Music Department held their annual Christmas choir and band concert on Sunday, December 10. The concert was performed in front of a capacity crowd at the high school theatre.

The high school choir, directed by Miriam Schwenn and accompanied by Betty DeBoer, began the concert with “Carol of the Bells” featuring Kellie Christians and Mrs. DeBoer in the prelude. Other choir selections included “On This Still, Silent Night”, “Aurora Borealis (A Song of Alaska)”, “Sweeter Still (A Holiday Carol)”, Troika (Based on a Traditional Russian Folk Song)” and “Let It Snow/Winter Wonderland.”

The All-State Chorus was featured in the second number along with Mrs. Elizabeth Schulte on the violin and Shelby Lee, Mackenzie Weinkauf, and Kassidy Wellnitz on handbells. Other choir soloists were Taylor Thue, Landon Brown, Abbey Converse, and Elsie Rogers.

The high school band took the stage with the opening percussion ensemble “Christmas Presence.” They followed that number with “Majestia.” Soloists were Rebecca Loehrer, Magally Aburto, and Jenny Seehafer.

Additional numbers by the band included “Christmas on Broadway”, “Bells of Joy”, and “Sleigh Ride” with soloists Isaiah Wollschlager and Keaton Hagen. The tuba and euphonium players closed out the show with “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.” Tuba players were Tanner Kettwig, Brandon Hansen, Trystan Fischer, Drake Rogers, William Karels, and Jairek Frazee. Euphonium players were Luke Wold, Ben Harstad, Joe Harstad, Karson Weber, Ian Liebe, and Joseph Schulte.
