Doris Wendland

Doris Wendland, age 82, of Milbank died December 27, 2017, at St. William’s Care Center.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 30 at 2:00 p.m. at Mundwiler Funeral Home, with Rev. Dave Tims officiating.  Visitation will begin at noon on Saturday and continue until the time of service.

Casket bearers will he her sons: Terry, Rodney, Timothy, Randy, Mike, Joel, and John Wendland.  Honorary bearers will be her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Doris Elizabeth (Morton) Wendland was born June 15, 1935, at the family home in Madison Township, LaBolt, SD.  She was the daughter of Raymond B. and Violet R. (Packard) Morton.  She attended rural school through the eighth grade.  Doris was united in marriage with Milo Orrin Wendland on June 6, 1953.

Doris lived all her life in the Milbank area.  She raised her family with love.  She worked as a nurse’s aid at St. William’s Care Center from 1981 to 1984, then worked at Whetstone Valley Nursing Home until 1993.  She was a volunteer for Visiting Neighbors from 1994 to 2006.  She also worked as the custodian for the Grant County Court House from 2006 to 2009.

Doris was a faithful member of Calvary Assembly of God Church.  She was a Sunday School Teacher, active with the Royal Rangers and Bible Quiz.  She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family.  She liked gardening, reading, and watching sports.  Most important to Doris was her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Monica (David) Buri of Nemo, SD; Terry Wendland of Savannah, GA; Rodney (Debb) Wendland of Brookings, SD; Timothy (Sheryl) of Parker, CO; Randy Wendland of Milbank, SD; Michael (Anita) Wendland of Milbank, SD; Joel (Tanda) Wendland of Payette, ID; John (Linda) Wendland of Redding, CA; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; siblings: Blance Rohlfs, Clara Pederson, Millie Pederson, Betty Schultz, and Myra Quade, all of Milbank, SD; brothers-in-law: Jim (Sheri) Wendland and Gene (Karen) Wendland, all of Milbank, SD.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents: Raymond and Violet Morton; husband, Milo; brothers: Chuck Morton, Burton Morton; sisters: Helen Seehafer and Dorothy Johanson; and many brothers-in-law.
