Gwendolyn Oswood

Gwendolyn Oswood, age 64, resident of Big Stone City, SD, died on January 15, 2018 at Fairway View Neighborhoods in Ortonville after a long battle with Alzheimers.

Funeral Services for Gwendolyn Oswood are scheduled for Saturday, January 20, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at First English Lutheran Church in Ortonville, MN. Visitation will be Friday, January 19, 2018, at the church from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Burial will be at Mound Cemetery following the service. Officiating the service will be Rev. David Tonn; and, Marilyn Hanson will be the organist. Honorary bearers will be: Jenna Dorry, Logan Benson, Eliot Dorry, Owen Dorry, and Archer Dorry.

Gwendolyn Larson was born to John and Mae (Johnson) Larson on September 16, 1953, in St. Peter, MN. When Gwendolyn was 16 years old, the family moved to Ortonville, MN. She attended Ortonville High School where she graduated in 1972. This is also the year that she married Tom Dorry. From this union they had four boys: Chris, Ben, Abe, and Jake.

She held different jobs during her working years. Some of these included advertising with KDIO, sales with Carlson Drug, and a correctional officer at the Appleton Prison. Gwendolyn was a member with First English Lutheran Church. She enjoyed socializing and spending time with her friends. She played the accordion and the organ. She collected porcelain dolls and was on the dart league in Ortonville for several years. Gwendolyn thoroughly enjoyed listening to music from the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s.

On July 20, 1996, Gwendolyn married William “Bill” Oswood. They remained in the Ortonville area enjoying the scenery and spending time with family and friends.

Cherishing her memory is her husband, Bill Oswood; her children: Chris (Kari) Dorry of Ortonville, MN, Ben (Larissa) Dorry of Belle Plaine, MN, Abe (Tanya) Dorry of Big Stone City, SD, and Jake Dorry of Ortonville, MN; three sisters: Pauline Karels of Ortonville, MN, Jennifer Thymian of Ortonville, MN, and Lori (Rod) Prasnicki of Big Stone City, SD; one brother, David (Lori) Larson of Ortonville, MN; five grandchildren: Jenna Dorry, Logan Benson, Eliot Dorry, Owen Dorry, and Archer Dorry; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her parents: John and Mae Larson; and one brother, Curtis Larson; and two brothers-in-law: Bill Thymian and Frank Karels.
