Four members of the Milbank Area Lions Swim Team excelled during the Watertown Optimist High Point Meet Saturday and Sunday, January 13-14.
High point medals were awarded to the top eight swimmers in each age group. Amaya Street captured first place high point in the girls 13-14 age group with 129 points. William Karels brought home a seventh place finish in the boys 13-14 age group with 91 points. “This was a successful meet for our swimmers,” said MALST head coach Jodi Street. “We are consistently seeing time drops and personal best swims and focusing on starts and technique to make that happen.”

Savanna Osowski swam a personal best time in the 100 breaststroke, and also punched her ticket in that event for the state meet in March. “This was a goal that Savanna has been working towards all season,” expressed MALST head coach Jodi Street. “It was such a great race for her.” Osowski was also the top timecutter for Milbank with a drop of 15.31 seconds in the 400 IM.

Marion Mischel tackled two new events for the winter season with the 200 IM and the 200 backstroke. “She competed well in all her races,” stated Coach Street. “She has worked hard on turns in practice, and it was great to see her compete in those events.”

Amaya Street also took on a new event for the season – the 1,000 freestyle. “She was able to swim a strong, consistent split for all 20 laps,” said Coach Street. Amaya placed first in the event and added it to her long list of state qualifying events. She finished the meet with four first place finishes, two second place finishes and a fourth place finish.

The Sealions will get a short break and will be back in action on February 3-4 in Brookings.
