St. Lawrence School in Milbank celebrates Catholic Schools Week Saturday, January 27 through Friday, February 2. This year’s theme is “Barnyard Roundup – Jesus Gathers Us Together.”
The roundup begins Saturday, January 27, with Mass at 5 p.m., followed by a bbq and hotdog meal at 6 p.m. Bingo follows the meal and is open to the public. Ten games are planned with prizes ranging from $10 to $100.
Monday is Career Day. Students dress in the attire of their future occupation. The lesson for the day is “Jesus Cares Now and Forever – Jesus is the Good Shepherd.”
Tuesday is Soup Day at the school. Grandparents and the elderly are invited to enjoy homemade soup made by the fifth and sixth-graders. Soup is served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Students also enjoy Twin Day by dressing in matching clothes with a partner. The theme of the day is “Jesus Provides Now and Forever – Jesus Feeds 5,000 People.”
Wednesday is Wacky, Wild Wednesday. Students dress in wild, mismatched clothes and wacky hair. The theme of the day is “Jesus Leads Now and Forever – Jesus Tells about a Sower.”
Thursday is Farmer or Farm Animal Day. Students dress as a farmer, cow, pig, horse, or other farm animal and spend the afternoon traveling through farm-themed centers. The day focuses on “Jesus Forgives Now and Forever – Jesus Tells about a Lost Son.”
The week wraps up on Friday with Spirit Day. Students sport their new Catholic Schools Week t-shirts and learn about “Jesus is Our Savior Now and Forever – Jesus Appears to Mary in the Garden.” The morning includes Mass at 8:30 a.m. and a fifth grade band concert at 9:30 a.m. Parents and grandparents are invited to a classroom open house from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. for a peek at the week’s activities and projects. Students may go for lunch with their parents from 11 to 11:45 a.m. A movie and snacks in the gym from 12:30 to 2 p.m. concludes the event.
