A low scoring game led to a 31-29 loss for the Milbank Bulldogs at the hands of the Deuel Cardinals Tuesday, January 30, in Clear Lake. The loss moves Milbank to a 7-8 season record.
Both teams struggled offensively to make their shots fall. The teams were tied up evenly at 6-6 at the end of the opening quarter. Deuel broke the tie open slightly in the second period to go ahead 15-12 at halftime.
The offensive struggles continued into the second half. Milbank remained behind at 26-21 heading into the final stanza. The Bulldogs outscored Deuel 8-5 in the final period, but it was not enough to earn the victory.
Jake Fox led the scoring for Milbank with nine points, nine rebounds and one assist. Derrick Aho followed with seven points, five boards, two assists and one steal. Mitch Quade tallied six points, four rebounds, two steals and one blocked shot while Jonny Ash had five points, one rebound, two steals and one blocked shot.
Also adding to the totals for the Dawgs were James Weber, two points, one rebound and one steal; Preston Morton, six rebounds, two assists and one steal; Jordan Riley, three rebounds, and Max McCulloch, two rebounds and one assist.
Milbank made just 21 percent of their shots from the field, making 11 of 53 attempts. The Dawgs were 4-for-25 from three-point land. The locals ended the game with 39 rebounds, 10 steals, six assists, two blocked shots and seven turnovers.
Deuel went 13-for-45 from the field for 29 percent shooting in the contest. The Cardinals were also 3-for-17 from the three-point mark. Deuel secured the win with 39 rebounds, four steals, four blocked shots and 11 turnovers.
