Milbank is kicking hunger with the 4th Annual Souper Bowl of Caring this week. Be part of the team! Drop off canned soup, canned ingredients to make soup, packages of noodles, and crackers to collection boxes at Berens Warehouse Groceries, Hartman’s Family Foods, and several churches by Super Bowl Sunday, February 4.

“This was started in 1990 by a seminarian who saw so much extravaganza surrounding the Super Bowl,” stated organizer Margaret Skoog. “There are so many people who live in the shadows of football stadiums that don’t even have enough money to buy a can of soup. So this event takes place every year to help raise awareness about hunger and to help keep the local food pantry stocked.”

The first year, the drive collected 400 items. Last year, 1,800 items were donated. “This year, if we can collect even just one more can than last year, it will be great,” said Skoog.
