Bertha “Dollie” H. Foss, age 99, resident of Wilmot, died on February 7, 2018, at the Wilmot Care Center.
Funeral Services for Dollie will be held on Monday, February 12, at 2:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Wilmot. Rev. John Barkett will officiate, and Sharon Ammann will be the organist. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Wilmot City Cemetery.
Dollie Hansen was born on September 20, 1918, to Hans P. and Suzanna (Miller) Hansen in Wilmot, SD. She attended and graduated from Wilmot High School in 1936 with her future husband. Dollie and Kenneth A. Foss were married on September 8, 1942, in Andover, SD. From this union, they had four children: Allen, Susie, Steven, and Brian.
As a Navy wife, Dollie lived in Tennessee, Virginia, Texas, and California. After Ken retired from the Navy, they moved to Brookings, SD for four years. They then moved to Faulkton, SD for one and one/half years before moving to Tacoma, WA. During this time, she had raised all her children to school age and began working as an elementary school cook. They lived in Tacoma from 1963 until 1975. Dollie continued to work in other high schools as the head cook. In 1975, they moved back to Wilmot where she, along with her husband, Ken, ran the Foss Café. Dollie remained in Wilmot until her passing.
Dollie loved cooking and entertaining her family and friends. She liked gardening, her involvement with the bridge club, knitting, and spending time at their cabin on Big Stone Lake. Dollie was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Wilmot.
Left with her precious memory are sons: Steven R. Foss of Wilmot, SD, Brian K. (Annie) Foss, of Mandan, ND; six grandchildren: Richard (Alison) Foss of Sioux Falls, SD, twins: Kenny and Kathie Foss, both of Ridgeland, SC, Jason (Val) Foss of Sioux Falls, SD, Christian (Jamie) Foss of Manatee, FL, and Brianna Foss of Baltic, SD; and 15 great- grandchildren.
Dollie was preceeded in death by her husband, Ken; parents: Hans and Suzanna; son, Allen; daughter, Susie; and all her brothers and sisters; Grace, Anna, Nels, Richard, Russell, Ray, Robert, and Adrian.
