Seven Wrestlers Place at Huron Invitational

Seven grapplers from Milbank High School brought home a top six finish at the Huron Invitational wrestling meet February 10. “The guys are wrestling above their seed,” stated head coach for the Bulldogs, Jeremy Tostenson. “We need to keep that going this week in the Region 3A meet.”

Sparking the team were Eli Fischer, Barrett Schneck, and Isaac Fischer – each earned a second place finish. Alec Bien and Brodie Holtquist finished third in their respective weight classes. Kaden Krause and Toby Schneck each took fifth place.

Milbank finished sixth in the team standings with 107 points. Winner won the team title with 206.5 points. Aberdeen Central was the runner-up with 173 points, and Mitchell placed third with 142.5.

Rounding out the team totals were: Clark-Willow Lake, 121; Huron, 114; Beresford/Alcester-Hudson, 99; Bon Homme/Scotland/Avon, 97; Yankton, 93; Webster Area, 73; and Wolsey-Wessington, 29.

The Bulldogs will battle for the top four places in each weight class and the chance to advance to the State Class A tournament during the Region 3A meet on Saturday, February 17, in Cheyenne-Eagle Butte. Watch The Valley Express Sports on Twitter for live updates.

132 – JD Luck lost by fall to Tate Haider, Wolsey/Wessington, 3:07; lost by fall to Aaron Gilchrist, Winner, 3:55.
152 – Toby Schneck lost by fall to Wyatt Knudson, Beresford/Alcester-Hudson, 2:39; defeated Cailob Week, 3-2 Winner; lost by fall to Dom Pechous, Bon Homme/Scotland, 1:17; defeated Blake Fredericks 7-4, Mitchell. Fifth place finish.
160 – Alec Bien won by fall/ Preston Norrid, Winner, 3:23; fell 6-2 to Collin Haar, Aberdeen Central; won by fall/ Matthew Katz, Huron, 4:20; defeated Landon Werdel 4-2, Clark/Willow Lake. Third place finish.
170 – Brodie Holtquist lost by fall to Owen Warren, Yankton, 2:09; won by fall/ Stockten Walter, Bon Homme/Scotland, 1:30; defeated Max Schoenfelder 3-1, Mitchell; won by fall/ Riggin Shippy, Winner, 4:28. Third place finish.
182 – Isaac Fischer won by 10-1 major decision/ Joey Hubsch, Webster; lost by fall to Wyatt Larsen, Huron, 4:44. Second place finish.
