William Karels and Amaya Street earned personal best and state qualifying times at the Watertown Qualifying Swim Meet February 17-18. According to their coach, Jodi Street. “Both swimmers also had a significant time cut in an event they hadn’t competed in since December.”

The two-day meet was their final regular season meet. The Sealions wrap up the winter season at the State A Championship Meet in Pierre, March 2-4.

A. Street brought home a first place finish in the 100 breaststroke, took second in four events, and had eight state qualifying swims. She also dropped 8.27 seconds in the 200 butterfly.

Karels added the 50 freestyle to his state qualifying events, and swam a new event – the 1,000 freestyle- in which he placed sixth. “Will has gradually increased to longer distance freestyle events over the winter season and swam them successfully,” added Coach Jodi. “My goal for him was to swim it under 13 minutes, and he accomplished that no problem.” Karels also dropped 8.88 seconds in the 400 Individual Medley.
