Four MALST swimmers, Elijah Fraasch, William Karels, Savanna Osowski, and Amaya Street attended their first short-course winter state championship. The meet was held March 2 and March 3 in Pierre. Coach Jodi Street said, “We had a great season and participating at this level was a great way for it to end. I am very proud of all the hard work and dedication from all the swimmers who made Milbank’s first year round season a success.”

Amaya Street made it to the winners’ podium – she took seventh place in the100-meter freestyle. Amaya was also the top time cutter with a 22.74 second drop in the 1000-meter freestyle. She posted five personal best swims and placed in the top 10 and above in all her events.

Elijah Fraasch swam four personal best times and placed in the top 10 in the 50-meter freestyle. Plus, he cut over four seconds off his time in the 200-meter individual medley, the 100-meter butterfly, and the 100-meter freestyle events.

William Karels placed 16th in his 100-meter freestyle. Savanna Osowski tackled the 100 and 200-meter breaststroke and swam a personal best in her 200-meter breaststroke with a 2.5 second time drop. She also earned 16th place.

Summer session registration for the Milbank swim team is March 25, at Milbank High School from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m.. Swim team is open to students ages 5-19 who can swim one length of the pool at Unity Square. All new swimmers must be tested by a certified coach prior to sign up.
