Linda Shank, age 85, of Milbank died May 3, 2018, at St. William’s Care Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 7, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Milbank. Visitation will be held on Sunday at the church beginning at 5 p.m. followed by a prayer vigil at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Monday, one hour prior to the Mass.

Casket bearers will be: Mark Schank, Steve Schank, Andy Chown, Jeff David, Terry Keeney, and Josh Davie. Honorary bearers will be: Linda’s friends, family, and Catholic Daughters.

Linda Rosella Adelman Schank was born on August 13, 1932, at rural Rosen, MN. She was the youngest child of Simon and Mary (Schueren) Adelman. She was born on her Grandpa Paul Schueren’s 80th birthday, and lived 2 ½ miles north of Rosen. Linda attended St. Joseph’s Parochial School through the eighth grade, taught by the Benedictine nuns from Crookston, MN. Linda graduated from Ortonville High School with the Class of 1952. She worked as a waitress and did babysitting while in high school.

Following her graduation, Linda moved to Minneapolis, MN and worked in the office for Arts Instruction, Inc. She worked as a legal secretary for Carl Eastwood in Ortonville, MN, and at Herberger’s in Watertown. She was united in marriage with William (Bill) J. Schank from Milbank, SD on February 27, 1954, at St. Joseph’s Church in Rosen. She said, “It was a beautiful spring-like day in February.” They had eight children: Pam, Gina, Sue, Lisa, Liane, Mark, Bob, and Steve.

Linda was an active and faithful member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church. She was active with the Catholic Daughters of American, Circle, Catholic Aid Association, and was president of Holy Family Society. She was a substitute teacher for CCD classes. She would pray the rosary at Golden Living Center with the residents. Linda worked at Whetstone Valley Nursing Home and St. William’s Care Center as a CNA, beautician, and in the laundry department. Her mission was to attend daily Mass and visit nursing home residents that did not have family.

Linda loved to travel to see her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed many trips with her children and her sister, Delores, as well as other family members. She loved children – especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Happy to celebrate her life, her husband, Bill Schank of Milbank, SD; children: Pam (Terry) Keeney of Rapid City, SD; Gina Tyler (Dave) of Onalaska, WI; Sue (Ted) Mutzner of Holmen, WI; Lisa (Andy) Chown of Onalaska, WI; Liane (Jeff) Davie of Hamm Lake, MN; Mark (Tammy) Schank of Mansfield, TX; and Steve (Heather) Schank of Monona, WI; 16 grandchildren: Zach Keeney, Carly Stroker, Billie Gentry, Michelle Tyler, Bridget Coassola, Ryan Mutzner, Dan Wilde, Christine Wilde, Tim, Josh, Ashlyn, Jeremy Davie, Jordan and Matthew Schank, Josie and Cheyenna Schank. 8 great-grandchildren: Garrett, Peyton, Violet, Olivia, Rowen, Leo, Floyd, and Quinn; sister-in-law, Genevieve Adleman of Ortonville, MN; many Adelman cousins, including Wanda Schuelke; cousins in Minnesota and dear friend, Jeanette Searcy. Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Simon Peter and Mary Adelman; one son, Robert, in 2002; siblings: Dolores Adelman Rausch, Dorothy Adelman Sis, Loretta Anna (infant), Germain Adelman, Gerald Albert (infant), Wilfred Adelman.
