Vivian Darlene (Jacobson) Mitzel, age 77, of Milbank, SD, died June 3, 2018, at St. William’s Care Center.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, June 8, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church. Father Gary DeRouchey will celebrate the Mass. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 7, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the church. A prayer vigil and rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m., immediately following the visitation. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery following the Mass on Friday.

Vivian Darlene (Jacobson) Mitzel was born on October 16, 1940, in Big Stone City, SD; the daughter of Emil and Florence (Schwartz) Jacobson. Vivian lived in Big Stone City while she was a child and later moved to Albee, SD and lived there until she was 18 years old. When Vivian turned 18, she moved to Milbank and remained there her entire life.

On January 17, 1959, Vivian was united in marriage with James William Mitzel at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Milbank. Together, they were blessed with six children. Vivian worked at Snow White Laundry, Snell Home Care, and Trevett’s Café throughout her life. She was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, enjoyed playing cards, going to the casino, crocheting, and doing embroidery with paint. She loved Bingo and especially loved cats!

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Cheryl (Gary) Cannedy, James Mitzel, Jr., Michael Mitzel, Mary (Arlin) Munson, David Mitzel, all of Milbank, SD; and Teresa Folk (special friend, Pat Byle) of Colgate, WI; 4 grandchildren: Tyler Munson, Sarah Cannedy, Katie Cannedy, and McKenna Mitzel; step-grandchild, Austin Smith; brother, DeWayne (Shirley) Jacobson of Forest Lake, MN; sister-in-law, Edna Mitzel of Manilla, IA; and many other relatives and friends.

Preceding Vivian in death are her parents; husband, James in 2008; grandson, Connor Munson; siblings: Cora Wolf, Russell Jacobson, Joyce Smith, Janet Ladwig, LeRoy Jacobson, and Walter Jacobson.
