Sophia (6) and Arielle (4) Schmidt say, “When life gives you lemons- make lemonade!” The girls have been selling lemonade to raise money for the It Only Takes a Spark campaign. So far, the young entrepreneurs have raised $366. (The sisters also plan to be open for business during the Cancer Walk at Lake Farley on June 8.)

How did two little sweeties squeeze $366 from a lemonade stand? The stand was in our driveway in Big Stone City says their mother, Ashley Athey. “They sold over three weekends for only about four hours a day. But it’s a very busy street!”

Monty, the girls’ “Papa,” was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2015 and continues to battle it. Ashley says, “The stand started out as casual conversation at the supper table. Sophia wanted to sell lemonade, so we decided they could sell lemonade and earn money for It Only Takes a Spark. They (It Only Takes a Spark) helped us when my dad was first diagnosed.”
