Edna Peschong, age 102, passed away on February 22, 2018. Edna A. (Hall) Peschong, age 102 of Eden Prairie, passed away 2/22/2018, one of ten siblings, was born on June 30, 1915 in Albee, Grant County, SD, to Egbert and Marriah (Macy) Hall. When Edna was in the eighth grade she was invited to live with an aunt and uncle in Sac City, Iowa where she continued her education and graduated from the Sac City High School in 1936. She then moved to Minneapolis to begin nurses training, but was called home to help care for her ailing mother and was not able to complete her training.
Edna married Lester L. Peschong at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Milbank, SD on May 31, 1941. They resided in Milwaukee, WI from 1941 to 1946 where she worked for Heils Company before moving back to Milbank. Beginning in 1954, Edna lived in several locations due to Lester’s job, including Poplar and Glendive, MT, Columbus and Westhope ND, Delano and Rockford, MN. The couple moved to Brainerd, MN following retirement and later to Eden Prairie, MN to be closer to their family. Edna has resided at the Augustana Chapel View Assisted Living and Nursing Home for the past seven years. The nursing home staff continually commented on how kind she was to the staff and how much they enjoyed her ready smile.
Edna’s moto when she graduated high school was “I may not be bound to succeed, but I’m bound to do my duty.” She not only did her duty in raising her family, but she also succeeded in other numerous ways which Included making over 2,300 rosaries for “prayer bags” being sent to our military soldiers overseas. This program was part of the Homebound Ministry through St. Hubert’s Catholic Church in Chanhassen, MN where Edna was a long time member.
Edna was proceeded in death by her parents, husband Lester in 1994, seven sisters and two brothers.
Survivors include: her daughter Adeline (Gerald) Reiten of Lake Havasu City, AZ and her son James (Jackie) Peschong of Minnetonka, MN; as well as grandchildren Denise (Jerry Murray), Kevin (Charlotte) Reiten, Michael (Rebecca) Peschong and Andrew (Christina) Peschong as well as three great-granddaughters (Anna, Molly and Ainsley) and three great-grandsons Tyler Berg, Luke Peschong and Nick Reiten. She also had numerous nieces and nephews.
Edna’s family wishes to extend our deepest gratitude to the entire staff of Augustana Chapel View Care Center and Grace Hospice for their unending dedication and care given to our loved one for the past seven years.
