Over 600 plates were served and 185 smoke detectors and four fire truck rides were given away during National Night Out at the Milbank Fire Hall on August 9. The brats and burgers were grilled by the Milbank Fire and Rescue team. The Fraternal Order of Police and Milbank Area Chamber of Commerce served up free root beer floats.

Arabella Bjerke, Clete Wellnitz, Sydnee Weyh, and Vziel Lopez each won a ride to school on a fire truck. They were the victors in the Drop the Tennis Balls from a Ladder Truck game, and will redeem their prizes during National Fire Prevention Week in October.

Agencies providing emergency vehicles and equipment, offering demonstrations, and answering questions included: Grant-Roberts Ambulance, Whetstone Valley Electric, Milbank Police Department, South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks, South Dakota Highway Patrol, Milbank Police Department, and Grant County Sheriff’s Office. The smoke detectors were courtesy of Grant County Emergency Management in conjunction with the South Dakota Department of Safety.
