Kites and Cones – a classic family outing on a Sunday afternoon- was held September 9, at Lake Farley Park in Milbank. The Milbank Area Chamber of Commerce and its sponsors presented the free event.

Families were invited to meet at the park to fly a kite. Kites were provided for those who needed them.  Denice Hooth of EXIT Realty said, “The weather was perfect for families to enjoy the day together. I was surprised by how many kids said they had never flown a kite before.”

To add to the event’s old-fashioned appeal, ice cream cones were also served. According to Cheri Meagher, who helped organize the event, “Over 175 ice cream cones were given away.”

Laurie Folk, Milbank Area Chamber Director said, “Today was a great family event, it was nice to see parents and grandparents out flying kites. Thanks to everyone that came out and thanks to all of those who donated to this event.

Steve Hilbrands from Hardee’s donated ice cream. Denice Hooth from Exit Reality donated her time and kites. Dwight and Denise Samson donated kites. Karla Fernholz from Triple Dip Lodge donated cones. Cheri Meagher from Speedway donated her time, kites, and cones. Dakota Range Wind donated funds. Ellwein Brothers donated water. Amy VanLith and Sue Welder donated their time to help organize the event.

Meagher added, “So glad people took the time to come out. I am excited for next year!”
