Lucille Folk, age 87, of Milbank, died September 29, 2018.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, October 3, 11:00 a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Milbank. Father Gary DeRouchey will be the celebrant and burial will be in the St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, beginning at 5 p.m. A rosary and prayer vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Wednesday, one hour prior to the Mass.
Casket bearers will be: Greg Rademacher, Adam Rademacher, Ryan Nelson, Josh Folk, Chad Folk, Matt Kasuske, and Carter Folk. Honorary bearers will be all her grandchildren.
Lucille Marie (Van Hout) Folk was born on April 24, 1931, at the family home in Melrose Township, Grant County, SD. She was the daughter of August and Pearl (Smith) Van Hout. Lucille attended rural school at Melrose #9. She babysat for the Van Stralen family. She was united in marriage with Albert Folk on June 14, 1951. They were blessed with eight children. Lucille and Albert farmed in Roberts County for 41 years, and she was the “chief grain truck driver.”
From 1956 until 1993, Lucille was active with the Extension Homemaker Club. She received many blue ribbons for her baked goods. Lucille was a faithful member of St. Lawrence parish and sang in the church choir. She was an oblate at Blue Cloud Abbey. She enjoyed playing cards, gardening, sewing and crafts. Her children and grandchildren will cherish the memory of her delicious homemade cookies and rolls. Lucille was voted “Valentine Queen” at St. William’s Care Center. She was proud of her crown!
Most importantly, Lucille loved her family and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Peggy (Kevin) Rademacher of Bellingham, MN; Debra (Bill) Nelson of St. Paul, MN; Randy (Marilyn) Folk of Milbank, SD; Sam (Heather) Folk of Milbank, SD; Nick (Sara) Folk of St. Paul, MN; Scott (Hilarie) Folk of Milbank, SD; Denise (Randy) Kasuske of Twin Brooks, SD; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren, with one additional on the way; siblings: Mary Whiting of Milbank, SD; Jerry (Joyce) Van Hout of Milbank, SD; special nephew, Darwin Van Hout; as well as, many other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant son, Andrew; and siblings: Ken, Antone, Joe Van Hout, Rosella Hermans, Ann Kasuske, and Donna Van Hout.
