The MHS Volleyball Team posted another win at home on Saturday, September 29, when they hosted the Lady Eagles from Lac qui Parle Valley. Milbank won the match by taking three sets in a row at 25-20, 25-21, and 26-24.

Coach Nancy Hoeke reported the girls had to work for the wins. “The team showed strong finishes at the end of each set. The first set was tied at 18-18 and then we took advantage of a few Lac qui Parle errors and got the set-ups and kills needed to win.

Hoeke says, “In the second set, I was out of time-outs and we only had 10 points (down 10-16). The girls put together a great fight and got it tied up at 17-17. Then again, we pushed through at the end to win. It was a super comeback!”

In the third, the Lady Bulldogs fell behind at 14-17, then tied it at 17-17. Hoeke says, “We were feeling pretty good at 24-19, but a few errors and more struggles with serve-receive, put our back to the wall at 24-24. Once again, we found a way to win, and I credit the girls for continually bouncing back.”

The Lady Bulldogs also racked up some nice numbers on the stat board. Serving for the match was 91 percent including six aces. Jacey Engebretson made four, and Jaden Hoeke and Traci Pillatzki each made one. Engebretson also led in attacks with 18 kills. She also had 14 assists and 14 digs. Gabbi Cummins made the leaderboard with nine kills, 17 assists, 10 digs and a block. Anna Mathews added two solo blocks and Katie Wollschlager contributed 21 digs. Makayla Johnson made eight kills and Jaden Hoeke had seven.

Lady Bulldog fans can watch their next match on Tuesday, October 2, at Deubrook. Match time is 5 p.m.
