The Grant County Christian Service Council received 4,739 pounds of food from Feeding South Dakota and distributed it to 180 families on October 17. Forty-six volunteers representing 11 different churches in Grant County, along with volunteers from the Kiwanis Club and Wells Fargo Bank kept everything running smoothly at the last food giveaway of 2018.
Brenda Maass, coordinator for the event said, “It truly takes a village. Valley Queen donated cheese for every family, Runnings loaned carts for shoppers to use, and Hartman’s Family Foods donated grocery bags. United Hardware gave us cardboard boxes for packing the food, and State Farm offered the use of their trailer for hauling cardboard to recycling. Shoppers and volunteers also snacked on cookies made by members of several area churches. Maass added, Thank you to the Valley Express and KMSD for helping us to advertise and get the word out about the giveaway. God Bless everyone who continues to help make this endeavor such a success!”
