Wanda Adelman was born to Jerome and Erna (Abramowski) Adelman on December 1, 1936, in Ortonville, MN. She was raised on a farm near Rosen, MN, in Vernon Township, Grant County, SD. She attended grade school at Rosen Parochial School and one year at Vernon Township Country School #1 in Grant County, SD. She attended high school at Bellingham High School and graduated in 1954. Wanda was a 4-H member during her grade school and high school years. After graduation, she worked at Prudential Insurance in Minneapolis, MN, as a typist for two years. She also worked for Angela Hall for nine years and Tel-Net for four years, both in Milbank, SD.

Wanda married John “Jack” Schuelke on October 8, 1955, and they moved to a farm near Bellingham, MN. Four years later, they moved to Alban Township in South Dakota where they remained on the farm until 1994. The couple made their final move to Milbank, SD, where she remained until her passing.

Wanda’s faith has always been strong. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rosen, MN, and later at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Milbank. She was adamant that her family have a strong faith-based home environment. Along with attending daily Mass, she enjoyed her Thursday gatherings at Hardee’s with her coffee friends, family, and relatives. What Wanda cherished the most was attending her grandchildren’s activities at school and church. She loved and cared for her family for many years on the farm in many ways, but the one that stands out was meal time where meals were made to accommodate multiple diets – never complaining.

Wanda was a member of Christian Mothers at St. Joseph’s Church and a religion education teacher with the Rosen and Nassau Parish for ten years. Wanda was also involved with the Gospel in Action Group through St. Lawrence.

Cherishing her memories are her children: Duane (Patti) Schuelke of Big Stone City, SD; Steve Schuelke of Big Stone City, SD; Lynette (Lynn) Pew of Corona, SD; Kevin (Tammy) Schuelke of Milbank, SD; James (Debra) Schuelke of Milbank, SD; and Gary (Cathy) Schuelke of Milbank, SD; sisters: LaVonne (Conrad) Schuelke of Ortonville, MN; Velma Wollschlager of Revillo, SD; Sharon (Erland) Welberg of Montevideo, MN; Ruth (Tom) Schuelke of Bellingham, MN; Donna Schell of Toledo, OH; Carole (Roger) Ruth of Coon Rapids, MN; and Beverly (Ken) Kuefler of Ortonville, MN; brothers: Adrian (Pam) Adelman of Brookings, SD; Dale (Pam) Adelman of Milbank, SD; Kenneth Adelman of Fargo, ND; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends.
