Three Milbank swimmers participated at the Mitchell Invitational December 7-8. Coach Jodi Street commented, “This was a new meet in a prelim/final format, which was a great experience for us and a good challenge for the swimmers. The prelims went much faster than we had anticipated, leaving only three to four minutes between some of their races. We swam very well, and all three of our swimmers advanced to the afternoon finals.”
Amaya Street and Savanna Osowski kicked off the meet on Friday evening by swimming personal best times in both the 200 freestyle and 400IM events. Coach Street said, “Amaya was our top time cutter for the weekend with a huge 7.22 second drop in her 400IM.” This also earned her a second place finish in the event.
On Saturday: Maddox Hanson advanced to finals in the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke. Osowski moved to finals in the 200 butterfly, 200IM, and 100 breaststroke. She earned a third place finish. Amaya Street advanced in both the 100 freestyle and 200IM. She took third in the 100 freestyle and second in the 200IM.
Coach Street added, “There is no doubt that this was a demanding meet. I was very pleased with how all three of them handled the intensity of the prelims and finals. It was a very good meet for us and a great way to prepare for the state championship in March, which will also be a prelim/final format.”
Next up, the Sea Lions compete at Midco Aquatic Center in Sioux Falls December 14-16.
