Jon Ivar Asgrimmson was born to Asgrimur and Thorhuldur (Jonsdottir) Garibaldson on December 7, 1942, in Akureyri, Iceland. He grew up in Iceland and also lived in Bexhill on Sea, Englund. Jon enlisted in the Air Grounds Services in Iceland and obtained a degree in business from Menntaskolinn University of Iceland. Jon was married to Jorunn “Jo” Saemundottir on April 13, 1964. Jon and Jo decided to move their family to America and settled down in Milbank, SD. Jon lived in Milbank for over 20 years when he lost his wife, Jo, on July 29, 2018. He continued to remain in the Milbank area until his passing.
Jon was quite the handy man and worked in carpentry and woodworking. He had a pilot license and was owner and manager of the Manor Motel in Milbank for several years. Jon maintained his faith as a Lutheran and was active in the Lion’s Club.
Jon is survived by his daughter, Sigred King, of England; grandsons: Kevin Koda and Justin Koda, great-granddaughter, Paige Koda; great-grandsons: Connor Koda and Graycn Koda; godson, Matthew Mueller; sisters: Margret Asgrimmsdottir and Heba Asgrimmsdottir; and step-brother, Asgrimur Benjaminsson; and many relatives and relatives in Iceland.
Preceding Jon in death are his wife, Jo; daughter, Heida; and his parents.
