Larry Roy Boerger was born on October 11, 1944, at St. Bernard’s Hospital in Milbank, SD, to Roy (Biz) and Charlotte (Jacobson) Boerger. He grew up on the family farm and attended grade school in Kilborn Township. He graduated from Corona High School with the Class of 1962. Larry was a member of the 740th National Guard for six years.
Larry met the love of his life, Wynn Anderson, and they were married on September 26, 1964, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Revillo, SD. This union was blessed with three children and 54 ½ years of marriage. They have lived on the Boerger home place their entire lives.
During their early years of marriage and while raising their family, Larry and Wynn farmed hand-in-hand. In the 1980’s Larry decided to try a different occupation but still live on the farm. He became owner-operator of Boerger Excavating, which was his passion for 30 years. He would rather work for his loyal customers than do anything else!
Larry enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He never wanted to miss anything or any activity that they participated in. Larry was faithful in sharing morning coffee with the guys at the Millstone every morning. He also enjoyed driving around South Dakota, taking in the beautiful landscape, and especially loved the Black Hills.
Larry is survived by his wife Wynn, of Twin Brooks; children: two sons: Michael (Brenda) Boerger of Watertown, SD; Doug Boerger of Milbank, SD; one daughter, Michelle (Mark) Bates of Twin Brooks, SD; three grandchildren: Shane Bates, Nick Bates, and Lisa Pahl-Boerger; sister, Donna (Gene) Patnoe of St. Cloud, MN; sisters-in-law: Gail (Robert) Carlson of Lyons, SD; Carol (Larry) Lewis of Rapid City, SD; brother-in-law, Ron (Linda) Anderson, LaBolt, SD; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents: Roy and Charlotte; an infant sister; and his grandparents.
In lieu of flowers, Larry’s family suggests a donation be made.
