Orrin “Shorty” Anderson, age 77, of Milbank, SD, died on April 22, 2019, at St. William’s Care Center.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 29, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. at American Lutheran Church in Milbank. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 28, from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Mundwiler Funeral Home in Milbank. A prayer service will begin at 6:00 p.m. Rev. Justin Neugebauer will officiate, and burial will be at Milbank City Cemetery.

Orrin “Shorty” Alvin Anderson was born on September 19, 1941, in Aberdeen, SD. He was the son of Christian and Irene (Kohl) Anderson. After completing 8th grade, Shorty worked on the family farm. He also worked on other farms and drove gravel truck for the Streges. Shorty later gained employment with the City of Milbank, working for the street department, and retired after 31 years.

Shorty and Alice Lorraine Jensen were united in marriage on June 24, 1961, at First English Lutheran Church in Ortonville, MN. To this union, four daughters were born: Lorri, Shari, Jodi, and Michelle. Together they made their first home in Big Stone City, SD. In 1963, they moved to Milbank, SD, where Shorty has resided ever since. Shorty and Alice were blessed with 52 years of marriage until Alice passed away on July 19, 2013. Shorty married Kathleen (Gettman) Schwagel on October 10, 2015, at American Lutheran Church in Milbank.

Shorty enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting. He loved riding horses and attended many trail rides and rodeos. He enjoyed his morning coffee at Hardees and going to the casino with his friends. He was a great storyteller and loved spending time with his family and friends.

Shorty’s memory is cherished by his wife, Kathy Anderson of Milbank, SD; daughter, Michelle (Steve) Lund of Granite Falls, MN; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; three-step children: Angie, Randy, and Cora Lee; seven step-grandchildren; and his beloved dog, Myra.

He was proceeded in death by his parents: Chris and Irene; wife, Alice; daughters: Lorri, Jodi, and Shari; and granddaughter, Melissa.
