The 100th Anniversary of Children’s Book Week, featuring the theme Read Now – Read Forever, runs through May 5. Thousands of schools, libraries and bookstores across the nation are joining the celebration. Children age eight and under are invited to stop at the Grant County Library for a free coloring book. Children age nine through 12 can sign up for prizes.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar is also celebrating his birthday – he’s 50! On Tuesday, April 30, an open house birthday celebration will be hosted at the library from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. for children ages two through six. Children, along with their parents, are invited to enjoy a story, a make & take craft, birthday cupcakes, and more. The birthday party is free and no registration is required.

The winners of the 2018-2019 South Dakota Children’s Book Awards are now available for check out at the Grant County Library. The Prairie Bud winner is Madeline Finn and the Library Dog by Lisa Papp and the Prairie Bloom winner was Best Frints in the Whole Universe by Antoinette Portis. The winner of the Prairie Pasque is Step Right Up: How Doc and Jim Key Taught the World About Kindness by Donna Janell Bowman.
