Arlo Johnson, age 84, of Wilmot, SD died on May 28, 2019, at Milbank Area Hospital – Avera Health.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, at Mundwiler Funeral Home in Milbank. Rev. Dr. DeVern Schwenn will officiate and burial will be at Osceola #2 Cemetery in Marvin with full military honors. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 31, from 5:00- 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home and continue on Saturday, one hour prior to the service.
Casket bearers will be Calvin Kramper, Corey Kramper, Wesley Johnson, Michael Johnson, Mitch Lewon, and Mark Wortmann. Honorary bearers will be Brooke Lewon, Megan Wortmann, and Sierra Kramper.
Arlo Edward Johnson was born on February 14, 1935, in Marvin, SD. He was the son of Edward and Ella (Nelson) Johnson. He grew up in Marvin. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Following his honorable discharge Arlo returned to South Dakota. He was united in marriage with Lois Adams on December 31, 1959, in Homer, NE. Arlo lived several years in Missouri until his retirement, then settled in Wilmot. He was united in marriage with Joanne Huff on May 3, 2015.
Arlo was a construction worker and worked on Interstate 29 from South Dakota to Missouri. He worked in many states operating a concrete pump truck and other heavy equipment. Arlo enjoyed helping on the family farm. He loved auctions, restoring old tractors, remodeling houses, and collecting guns. He was a sweet and kind man who will be missed by many.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Joanne of Wilmot, SD; daughters: Brenda (Steve) Stewart of Wynot, NE; Lynnda (Steve) Kramper of Jackson, NE; and Kimberly (Willson) Johnson of Dakota City, NE; seven grandchildren: Brooke (Mitch) Lewon, Megan (Mark) Wortmann, Calvin (Brianne) Kramper, Corey (Danielle) Kramper, Sierra (fiancé Corey Parry) Kramper, Wesley Johnson, and Michael Johnson; nine great-grandchildren: Heidi, Lane, and Halley Lewon, Jackson Wortmann, Kamdyn, Layton and Hudsyn Kramper, Alaina and Oliver Kramper; sisters: Louise (Roger) Green of Wilmot, SD; Susan (Bob) Capp of Milbank, SD; Mary (Chuck) Peters of Watertown, SD; Rosie Kantola of Green Bay, WI; sister-in-law, Sharon Johnson of Marvin, SD; as well as many nieces and nephews. Arlo was preceded in death by his parents: Edward and Ella Johnson; brother, George Johnson; and sister, Ruth Traphagen.
