Joyce Brown

Joyce Brown, age 79, of Milbank, SD, passed away on August 28, 2019, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 3, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at Mundwiler Funeral Home Chapel in Milbank. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place at St. Lawrence Catholic Church Cemetery in Milbank.

Joyce Agnes (Beck) Brown was born on August 20, 1940, in Milbank, SD, to Francis and Helen (Schuneman) Beck. She grew up in Milbank and attended Milbank High School. During her childhood, she lived in Milbank except for a period of time when she lived in Sioux Falls during World War II. While living Sioux Falls, her father trained soldiers how to be radio specialists.

Joyce met Robert Brown in Milbank and they were united in marriage on January 21, 1959. They lived on the Brown farm in rural Grant county and raised three children.

As a farm wife, Joyce loved cooking, gardening, and bird watching. She also created stained glass windows and taught the art of stained glass to many. A window she built is present in the Mill Theatres on Main Street in Milbank.

Joyce is survived by her husband, Robert Brown of Milbank; children: Joseph (Carla) Brown of Gretna, NE; Richard (Dianna) Brown of rural Milbank; and Jennifer Brown of rural Milbank; six grandsons: Tyler Brown, Andrew Brown, and Matthew Brown all of Omaha, NE; John Brown of Gretna, NE; Jacob Brown of Madison, SD; and Cole Brown of rural Milbank; and eight great-grandchildren: Erika, Lydia, Gareth, Henry, Evelyn, Katie, Dietrich, and Edmund.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, William.
