The Milbank Lady Bulldogs secured their first win of the high school volleyball season by defeating the Deuel Cardinals 3-0 on Tuesday, September 3, at the Milbank Armory. Milbank moved to 1-1 with the victory.
“It definitely feels good to get that first win,” expressed Lady Bulldog head coach Nancy Hoeke. “It boosts our confidence that we have some good things in us and that we can do it! Now we need to show that when we have tougher competition as well.”
Milbank started off a little slower in the first set, but eventually settled down and got into the groove with a 25-15 win. “It was tough right away to put the ball away, but we found by going off-speed to the middle we were able to score,” added Hoeke.
The Lady Bulldogs continued to press forward and took the next two sets at 25-13 and 25-11. “Deuel seemed to let down after the first set,” noted Hoeke. “We kept putting pressure on them with serving as well as our attack. The
girls played well.”
