Funeral services for Shirley Hein will be held on Thursday October 3, at 2:00 p.m., at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Milbank. Reverend Timothy Koch will officiate. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 2, at Mundwiler Funeral Home in Milbank, and one hour prior to services at the church in Milbank on Thursday. Burial will be in the Milbank City Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be Tony, Travis, and Dillon Anderson, John Brothers, Steve Kane, and Drew Tschakert. Honorary bearers will be Cory Anderson, who is currently deployed, and the VFW Auxiliary.
Shirley Ann Dockter Hein was born in Cambridge, Illinois on August 28, 1939 to Gilbert and Helen (Byers) Dockter. She moved to South Dakota with her family in 1950. She attended country school and graduated from Milbank High School in 1957.
Shirley married Herman Hein on September 19, 1958. They recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary. They lived all their married life in Milbank where they raised their 5 children.
Shirley was a stay at home Mom, and she was a babysitter for several years. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and Emanuel Lutheran Church. She loved her family more than anything. She looked forward to family gatherings where there were plenty of hugs and smiles. She also loved yellow roses, snicker bars, lemon pie and Elvis.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Herman, of Milbank; sons: Tim (Sandee) Hein, of St Paul, MN; Dan Hein, of Minneapolis, MN; daughters: Vicki Anderson, of Aberdeen, SD; Lisa Hein, of Aberdeen, SD; and Nancy “Bunny” (Steve Kane) Hein, of Milbank, SD; 9 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brother, Howard (Karen) Dockter, of Ortonville, MN; sister, Evelyn (Terry) Gaikowski, of Webster, SD; many cousins, nieces, and nephews; and very special friend Pat Jonescheit of Milbank.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Stan Dockter, Orv Dockter, and infant daughter Laurie Ann.
