The MHS cross country teams competed at the Roy Griak Invitational at the Les Bolstad Cross Country Course at the University of Minnesota on Saturday, September 26. Nick Batchelor took eighth-place with a time of 17:01.30 – the fastest by a Milbank runner ever at the Roy Griak. There were 561 runners in the race.

Milbank’s head coach Eric Townsend said, “The boys’ team finish was their highest since 2012; the girls’ finish was the highest since 2009.” The boys ranked 41st out of 50 teams with 1,105 points. The Lady Bulldogs earned 36th out of 50 teams with 918 points.

Brady Femling finished 217th. Zippy Bock took 249th place. James Batchelor landed in 331st place; Alex Farrell, 447th ; Isaac Graham, 485th; and Cade Howard, 522nd.

For the girls’ race there were 509 runners. Maurina Street led the team with a 153rd place finish. Ellie Neugebauer was 164th and Ashlyn O’Farrell came in at 167th. Also placing were: Danica Schulte, 204th; Amaya Street, 294th; and Maiah Brown, 381st.

On Milbank’s Roy Griak All-Time Best Times list, in addition to N. Batchelor, Femling is 18th, Bock is 24th, and J. Batchelor is 38th. For the girls, Street is 12th, Neugebauer, 17th; O’Farrell, 18th; Schulte, 21st; and A. Street, 41st.

“Having this many on the list is a huge accomplishment for both teams,” said Townsend. “We are pretty happy with the position both teams are in at this point in the season. The key will be staying healthy the last month.”
