The Milbank Lady Bulldogs ended the 2019 volleyball season with a 3-0 loss to the number 2 seeded, Groton Area Tigers, in the second round of Region 1A volleyball action Thursday, November 7, in Groton. Milbank finished the season with a 11-19 overall record.

Milbank got out to a shaky start in the first set and quickly fell behind at 2-12. The Lady Bulldogs struggled again the Tigers strong hitters and lost the set 10-25. The locals came back stronger in the second set. Milbank fought hard but dropped behind at 6-10 early on. The Lady Bulldogs pulled to within three points at 18-21 late in the set, but unforced errors caused their demise and they fell 19-25.

The teams battled it out to start the third set. Milbank knotted up the score at 9-9 after a kill from Jaecy Engebretson and a block from Tracy Pillatzki and Siri Bien. Groton surged ahead at 15-17 before going on a six-point run to break the game open at 15-23. The Tigers sealed the win with two solid kills to end the set and match at 17-25.

J. Engebretson led the Lady Bulldogs with nine kills on 40-46 hitting, seven assists on 38- 38 setting, 5-5 serving, and 14 digs. Madi Thue followed with four kills on 23-28 hitting, 9-9 serving, seven digs, and one block. Pillatzki tallied two kills on 10-12 hitting, one ace on 7-8 serving, three digs, and two blocks while Elsie Rogers went 14-14 hitting with three kills, 10-10 setting, and five digs on the night.

Amy Nelson chipped in with seven assists on 37-37 setting, 8-8 serving, and eight digs, and Cassidy Christians had one assist on 12-12 setting, 7-8 serving, and nine digs. Hallie Schulte led the Lady Bulldog defense with 27 digs and went 6-7 serving.

Other team leaders were Siri Bien, one kill on 3-4 hitting, 1-1 serving, one dig, and one block, and Averie Engebretson, one kill on 13-15 hitting, three assists on 10-10 setting, and four digs.
