Charles L. “Charlie” Benting, age 79, of Milbank, SD died on December 17, 2019, at the Milbank Area Hospital-Avera Health.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 20, at 2:30 p.m. at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Milbank. The Reverend Timothy Koch will officiate. Interment will be in the Milbank Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 19, at the Mundwiler Funeral Home in Milbank, and continue one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday.

Charles Lee Benting was born on July 22, 1940, in Milbank, SD, to Herman and Evelyn (DeClercq) Benting. He grew up on a farm north of Milbank. Charles attended school through eighth grade in Melrose Township of Grant County, SD. Charles was a member 740th Transportation Company – National Guard and was activated to Fort Carson in 1961. He attained his GED while stationed at Fort Carson.

On, June 20, 1970, Charles was united in marriage with Marian Bracht at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Milbank. Charles worked as a mechanic for Len’s Motor Tuneup and Storsteen’s Milbank Motors for many years. He later worked as the Parts Manager for Service Chevrolet, McMahon Motors, and Unzen Motors.

Charles was a lifelong member of Emanuel Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and wood working. He also reupholstered furniture as a hobby.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marian of Milbank, SD; daughter, Debra Bond (Kyle Litwin) of Savage, MN; son, Keith (Jamie) Bracht of Rapid City, SD; grandchildren: Aaron (Darlene) Bracht, Carissa Roney (Chris West), Cassie (Jesse) Hamer, Steve Bond, and Scott (Rachael) Bond; numerous great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley Tucholke; brother, Gene (Michele) Benting; and many nieces and nephews.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents; twin brother and sister, Leon and Leone; sister, Bonnie Benting; and step-daughter, Rhonda Smith.
