The Milbank gymnastics team posted their highest team score of the season and the second highest in MHS school history on Saturday, January 25, at the Watertown Invitational.

The locals placed sixth out of 10 teams with a total score of 132.525. The highest team score stands at 134.325 which was set in 2019 at the Region 1A meet.

“We hit 19 out of 20 routines and had some of the cleanest routines I have seen from a Milbank team,” stated head coach Amber Fraasch. “We have had to deal with sickness, injury, and loss of practice time due to the weather, but the gymnasts have been working hard to add event requirements, difficulty, and bonus skills along with cleaning up the execution in their routines.”

Maddie Gustafson had her third qualifying score on the floor exercise. She also earned her second qualifying score on vault. Tori Hooth and Rylie Overby scored personal bests on the balance beam and were two of the four locals to perform a no-fall routine. Greta Snaza and Dani Yamaura also nailed a no-fall performance.

“Our beam set reminded me of our success last year in this event,” added Fraasch. “We have the talent and the ability to score well on beam and confidence in this event will take us a long way in post season competition.”

Yamaura returned to the lineup after an injury kept her from competing in the last two meets. She earned her third state-qualifying score in the all-around and is now pre-qualified in all four events and the all-around competition.
