Fischer Going to Championship at State Wrestling

Milbank senior Eli Fischer is headed to the championship bout tomorrow, Saturday, February 29, at the 2020 South Dakota State Class A Wrestling Tournament in Sioux Falls. He secured his spot in the final match with a 6-4 semi-final victory against Jacob Vogel of Dell Rapids on Friday, February 28.
Fischer will face the No. 4 seed and defending state champion, Riley Hollingshead of Sioux Falls Roosevelt. Hollingshead upset the No. 1 seed Darien Malone of Rapid City Stevens in the semi-finals. The championship round of matches begins at approximately 5 p.m. on Saturday.
Toby Schneck also secured a spot in the highlight on Saturday. He defeated Derek Webster of Spearfish, 4-3, in the second round of wrestle-backs on Friday. He faces Blake Larsen of Huron in the third round of wrestle-backs at 11 a.m. Saturday.
The remaining five Bulldogs were eliminated from the tournament. Barrett Schneck, Brady Femling, and Leyton Raffety were each defeated in their first round wrestle-back matches Friday. Dillon Schneck secured a first-round wrestle-back win but lost his next match to end his season and wrestling career. Brodie Holtquist lost his second round wrestle-back match which also ended his career.
B. Schneck fell 2-1 to Corter Doney of Rapid City Stevens. Brady Femling lost by 9-0 major decision to Kyler Lillie of Yankton. Raffety lost by fall to Jaxon Bowes of Brookings in 4:34. D. Schneck won by fall against Tyson Degen of Mitchell in 5:15 in the first round wrestle-backs. He then lost by fall to Garrett Mitzel of Aberdeen Central in 2:09. Holtquist fell 7-4 to Dillon Stoebner of Aberdeen Central in the second round of wrestle-backs.
