The Lady Bulldogs gymnastics team concluded their 2019-2020 season with an awards banquet on Thursday, February 27. The varsity team had a 42-28 record and was 16-4 in the Northeast Conference. They achieved the second-highest team score and second-highest average team score in MHS history with 132.525 and 128.171, respectively. They also secured the fourth-highest beam score in school history with a 33.700.
Three seniors were recognized for their dedication and accomplishments. Maddie Gustafson was a letter winner and state competitor beginning in eighth grade. She was named the team’s hardest worker this year and earned the South Dakota High School Activities Association Academic All-State honor. “Maddie’s love for the sport of gymnastics was evident in her dedication and hard work in and out of season,” said Coach Fraasch. “That hard work paid off with multiple personal-best scores this season and a trip to the state meet as an all-around gymnast. Maddie is known for her beautiful dance and her leadership and dedication to the team will be missed next year.”
Lindsey Hartman was a gymnast with the Big Stone Lighting from seventh to ninth grade. She joined the Milbank team as a sophomore. After taking a year off, Lindsey rejoined the team to complete her senior season. Lindsey earned the Most Dedicated award this year. “Lindsey always cheered for all her teammates and worked hard earning personal-best scores,” said Fraasch. “Although those scores did not qualify her for state meet competition, Lindsey did not hesitate to take on the much-needed student manager position and responsibilities during post season to help her team earn their fifth-place finish.”
Tori Hooth has been a member of the team since seventh grade, and a varsity letter winner and state meet competitor since her freshman season. “Tori is known for her power and ability to complete huge jumps and for her rebounding ability,” said Fraasch. “Tori received the Most Improved gymnast award last year and is one of only a few Milbank gymnasts to have full difficulty, full event requirements, and full bonus on floor and beam. Her consistent top scores will be missed next year.”
Freshman Rylie Overby was named the Most Improved gymnasts by her peers. Dani Yamaura and Aubrey Fraasch were presented with the Coaches Awards. Laney Forrette and Rylie Overby were each selected as Rookie of the Year.
Varsity letter winners include: Maddie Gustafson, Tori Hooth, Greta Snaza, Madison Mathews, Dani Yamaura, Laney Forrette, Rylie Overby, and Aubrey Fraasch.
The junior varsity team had a 9-0 record and was 5-0 in the conference. Minor letter winners are: Zoe Theis, Hannah Brown, and Addisyn Krause.
