Three Milbank swimmers participated in the 2020 South Dakota Short Course State Championship meet held February 27 through March 1 at the Prairie Lakes Wellness Center in Watertown.
Logan Dexter swam the (boys age 9-10) 50-meter breaststroke race and earned a personal-best time. Amaya Street and Savanna Osowski both swam prelims in the morning sessions and qualified for the finals in the evening.
Amaya brought home seven state medals, one for each event she swam. In six of those, she earned personal-best times. “She had phenomenal swims in both the 100 and 200 breaststrokes with fourth place finishes,” said Coach Street. “She also placed second in the state in the 100 freestyle.”
Savanna recorded multiple personal-best swims with two huge time cuts in the 100-meter breaststroke and 200-meter individual medley (IM). She dropped 3.5 seconds in prelims and another 1.5 seconds in the finals for a five-second cut in the IM. “That’s incredible,” said Coach Street. Savanna earned three state medals with top-eight finishes in the 100-meter and 200-meter breast and the 100 IM.
