Milbank’s assistant fire chief, Justin Mathiason, arrived in a fire truck with sirens blazing this morning to celebrate Morgan Dunnihoo’s fifth birthday. Morgan is the daughter of Ryan and Miranda Dunnihoo.
At 6:30 p.m. tonight, the fire truck burned rubber to get to Ashlyn O’Farrell’s house. Ashlyn’s mom, Cadi, said, “Ashlyn had planned a sleepover for her 15th birthday, but those plans had to be canceled.” Her brothers and sisters joined her for a birthday photo beside the truck.
If you’re a kid in Milbank, Big Stone City, Revillo, or Corona you can celebrate this way, too. Having a birthday this April or May, but your party plans have been given the ax? Your local firefighters will save the day. The whole neighborhood (maybe even the whole town) will know it’s your birthday when a big red fire engine comes clanging up to your house with lights and air horns blasting.
Milbank Fire Chief Kevin Schuelke says, “It’s a real day brightener for the kids stuck at home and a cool deal for their parents, too. You can’t get a ride due to health concerns, but you can get a picture beside the truck. We hope this will give the kids a good memory and let them know the firemen are always there for them.”
The offer is good for children pre-kindergarten through high school. A parent or guardian is required to place the request. Fire Chief Schuelke also reminds families to follow CDC guidelines for social distancing.
