The Milbank Firechiefs finally started their 2020 season and posted a 14-5 victory over the Aurora Aces on Wednesday, June 17 on the road.
Milbank got on the scoreboard first in the second inning when Taylor Boerger singled to score two runs, and the Chiefs increased their lead to 3-0 with a solo home run by Bryan Appl in the third.
Aurora cut into the deficit with two runs in the fourth, but Milbank came soaring back in the fifth to plate four runs. Tristan Hall belted out a home run which also brought two more batters across home plate. Milbank continued its offense with another three runs in the sixth and two in the seventh to take a commanding 12-5 lead. The Chiefs pounded the final nail in the coffin for Aurora with two runs in the ninth.
Milbank collected its 14 runs on 12 hits. They committed two errors. Hall, Appl, Jacob Jackson, and Jesse Krause each had multiple hits for Milbank. Hall was 4-for-6 at the plate with a homer in the fifth, a single in the sixth, another single in the seventh, and a final single in the ninth. Hall also led the team with three stolen bases and six RBIs. Jonny Ash and Dom Boerger each had two stolen bases.
Taylor Boerger was the starting pitcher for Milbank. He lasted four and a third innings, allowing five runs on four hits and striking out ten batters. Dom Boerger earned the win for the Chiefs. He surrendered zero runs on two hits in four and two-thirds innings. Boerger struck out 12 batters and walked none.
