Rhianna Cantine, a recent MHS graduate, is the lead teacher of tennis lessons offered this summer by the Milbank Area Tennis Association. The lessons began June 8 at Cantine Courts. Fourteen athletes, ages kindergarten through fifth grade, enrolled to learn a new sport or improve their skills.
“So many signed up I had to split the group into two,” Cantine says. “But it’s going great. I’m glad to give the kids something to do because so many activities were canceled this summer.” She says, “The most challenging thing is trying to do everything the kids want to do and still teach the important things. But, we have lots of fun. And they’ve picked up some very good skills!”
This is the fourth summer Cantine has taught lessons. She is assisted by Halli Essington and Steve Stemsrud. Cantine says, “Halli and I also trained to get a better feel for teaching kids tennis and learning how to react in difficult situations.”
